In business I work with people to try to help them to slow down and look for connection in their relationships. And I try to do the same in my personal life too.

Today I am having a coffee with Viki Clapham of Pebble Family Therapeutic Services, who has kindly agreed to answer my questions about her no BS happier life…

Q. How long have you been self-employed, and how do you make the most of the freedom that self-employment brings?

A. I’ve been fully self employed for about 18months, but was part employed, part self employed for 3.5 years before that.

The freedom of having a self employed income has meant that I can be more of a present parent. I can now do the school runs, be there for the school trips and school performances. I’m also able to have breakfast with my children every morning in a calmer and more preferable way (prior to this I was rushing them out the door at 7:30am to get them to the childminder!). It’s the small things that might not really matter to most, but for me, showing up as a parent and being a part of these small moments is really important.

Q. What are you passionate about – in business and in life?

A. I’m passionate about finding joy out of the small things. In business I work with people to try to help them to slow down and look for connection in their relationships. And I try to do the same in my personal life too.

Q. What brings you joy?

A. Being with people I love. Laughing with them, snuggling up with them, going on adventures and learning new things together. Oh, and the mountains. I love the snowy mountains, they always bring me joy.

Q: How do you nurture yourself when you do something that is outside of your comfort zone?

A: I don’t find this the easiest thing to do if I’m honest. I find it hard to self nurture and think about what I might need. I think I usually try to create time alone, a hot shower and a hot cup of tea. Simple but always does the trick.

Q: How do you show yourself excessive kindness?

A: Again, I’m a forever learner in this one. It doesn’t come easily to me. But I’m building a bunch of things in my toolkit:
– yoga.
– walks outdoors
– hot showers
– hot drinks
– early night to bed
– reading
– listening to podcasts or audio books
– Hygge!

Q. What is one thing about being a business owner that you have learned is BS?

A. That you have to have a nailed down business plan to be successful. You don’t!

Q. What will be your next adventure?

A. Personally – a family ski holiday. Professionally – offering a nurturing group to parents and their babies.

Q. An important part of owning our own story is being able to state who we are without explanation. Tell us something about yourself / your preferences / your needs without any background or context:

A. I’m an introvert. Sometimes I don’t want to talk to anyone!

Q. Who are you looking to work with, and how can people get in touch?

A. I work with primary school aged children and their families. People can get in touch via email, my website or Facebook page. Or just a good old fashioned phone call.

My thanks to Viki for allowing me to share her story! Look out for another interview with a member of my wonderful business network coming out in a fortnight.
